About Jim

Hi! Thanks for visiting Planet Jim. There's some important information about logging in here, along with some other stuff too.

Before we begin, I must stress that WHENEVER YOU VIEW THE COMICS, CLICK THE "ORIGINAL" LINK BELOW THE PREVIEW IMAGE. My comics contain a lot of detail, so you'll want the larger image. Drupal has this quirk where you click the thumbnail, the preview shows up, and then you have to click a separate link to the original. It's a pain, and I'm working on it.

WHAT IS PLANET JIM?
--------------------
Planet Jim is a silly comic about cats, birds, dogs and people.

WHO ARE STAN AND RICH?
----------------------
Stan & Rich is a secondary comic that deals with two guys and their conversations, either between themselves or with others. It's made in a very simple style compared to Planet Jim, something closer to an actual "gag strip". Because the comics are so different from each other, they give me a chance to branch out and experiment, which is always fun.

WHERE'S DA MERCH?
------------------
It's still early days. Once the comic has enough of an archive, and enough viewers, I'll do it.

HOW COME YOU DECIDED TO LET PEOPLE POST COMMENTS?
--------------------------------------------------
The trouble with comments is that they're rarely any help. If anything, they just give people a reason to form factions based on whether they're "fans" of the comics or "haters", and that sort of stuff is just lame. If you don't like the comic, that's fine. If you do like the comic, that's fine too.

However, I've come to recognize that not everyone is this petty, and that if I can make it easier for these people to respond to the comic, I should do that. So, comment away.

That said, nothing beats a thought-out, meaningful letter. You can always send me an email about how the material affects you. I always try to answer every message I get, except for questions about what the comic means, because that would defeat the purpose of forming your own opinion.

WHERE'S THE COLOUR?
--------------------
I happen to like black and white a lot. It forces you to develop textures and shading in a way that bright, crazy colours don't always permit. Also, if I started using colour with my style, it'd either look generic or there'd be neon hatching everywhere, and it'd become the focal point of the comic. And there's enough examples of that kind of work out there already.

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH LOGGING IN? WHAT KIND OF BENEFITS DO I GET?
-------------------
Quite a bit! Access to the forums, being able to post comments, having a nice little username that people can refer to, etc. There may be more benefits down the road, like preview sketches and other behind the scenes content. I do so much for you people. You don't know what it's like sitting on the floor, naked, eating birthday cake alone in a corner of my filthy room. It is dark, and I scrawl the comic on the back of a Christmas card I mailed to myself with only the moths for company, illuminated by my dimming flashlight. This is what it looks like. This is what it looks like when you take too much of my soul. I am becoming less than what I once was. Help.
