You are fully entitled and encouraged to criticize, complain, or question any content produced on this site. This includes comments left by other users. You can swear, moan, bitch and whine about anything you see on this site. You can also encourage, support, compliment and approve of any statement you find on the site, written or otherwise. HOWEVER, at no time should a defamatory, insulting, or otherwise hurtful statement or image be aimed at an INDIVIDUAL USER. Ideas are separate from people. WHAT ABOUT USERS WHO FORM OPINIONS INFORMED BY A GROUP THEY BELONG TO? CAN I MAKE FUN OF THEM? Groups of people are not completely immune to ridicule, since groups operate under ideologies which are open to criticism, and the members of those groups should respond to criticism of their beliefs with grace and respect. On the other hand, some groups subscribe to ideologies which are intrinsically linked to a person's sex, race, lifestyle or sexual orientation. These elements form much of a person's identity, and questioning them may subject the questioning party to retaliation. Users are expected to discern "ideological groups" from "identity groups", and act accordingly. For instance, saying "The American Government is nothing but assholes" may not be accurate, but the D.C. Government is an ideological group, so they are subject to this kind of statement. However, saying "America is nothing but assholes" is referring to an entire nation of people, which not only diminishes the accuracy of such a sweeping statement, but is targeted at a group founded on personal identity. As such, they retain the right to defend themselves as vehemently as they choose (within the bounds of the law). Because this is an open forum, we have to keep these kinds of arguments to a minimum, otherwise they'll overtake any other kind of discourse. Sorry, honey. The wording of your comment also matters. Pastor Steven Anderson prays for the death of the U.S. President, but he's never personally threatened him. Sneaky, sneaky! You can be sneaky too, and say inflammatory things without actually abusing or threatening others. But, hey, if you walk a tightrope through someone's space, don't think you won't get pushed off. THAT WAS REALLY DETAILED, AND MY EYES HAVEN'T ADJUSTED FROM ALL THE HEROIN I JUST SHOT UP THERE. COULD YOU DUMB IT DOWN A SHADE? You are expected to treat individuals with the same respect you would give yourself. In the event that you have low respect for yourself, PRETEND you have high respect for yourself, then extend this treatment to other users. SO I CAN BASICALLY SAY WHATEVER I WANT, THEN? Sure!
